An adhesion primer is needed when adhesive, sealant or tape won't bond properly, as on modern powder coatings and many plastics. Technical coatings with self-cleaning properties in particular have a very low surface tension. Novatio Seal & Bond Special Primer increases the surface energy of such substrates, so that a bond with MS polymer, silicone sealant or tape holds firmly. After a short drying time, the primer is invisible and leaves no traces or marks.

Application
Powder-coated aluminium window profiles, doors, sandwich panels and other smooth materials that are difficult to bond. In addition to powder coating and paintwork, the materials Novatio lists include PP, PP/EPDM, ABS, PC, PA, SAN, PBT, PPO, PUR-RIM, R-TRU, UP-GF plastic and flexible PUR foam. When installing windows, you also apply the primer to the sides of the frame before sticking on the expanding foam tape. On bare metals, the primer adds no benefit. Novatio recommends using it in combination with Seal & Bond Sealtrans.
How to apply the primer
- Clean the substrate beforehand with Multifoam and/or Safety Clean.
- Wipe or blow the surface dry.
- Shake the can well until the mixing ball rattles freely.
- Spray one thin coat and leave it to dry for 10 minutes at 20 °C.
- Then carry on bonding, taping or painting.
- After use, turn the can upside down and spray briefly until only gas comes out; this keeps the nozzle clean.
Safety
Extremely flammable aerosol in a pressurised container: keep away from heat and flames, do not pierce or burn, and do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50 °C. The primer causes skin irritation, may cause drowsiness or dizziness, is toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects and contains a substance that may produce an allergic reaction. Work in a well-ventilated area, wearing gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
