Use this 16A circuit breaker (MCB) to protect a circuit that needs a little more power than a small lighting circuit. The Schrack BMS4 disconnects both conductors as soon as the current rises too high or a short circuit occurs. This keeps the cables in your walls within their safe limits.
What is a 16 A MCB for?
On a 1.5 mm² conductor, 16 A is the highest rating that AREI (the Belgian electrical installation regulations) permits in homes. That is why you will often find it on:
- lighting circuits with many lighting points
- a dedicated circuit for a fixed appliance, such as a cooker hood or air conditioning unit
- the circuit for a small solar inverter, if the manual specifies 16 A
Because both poles are protected, it can be used in a 3×230 V network, where every circuit is connected between two phases, as well as in a 3N×400 V network.

Installation and connection
This MCB takes up two modules on the DIN rail. Because the terminals are open on both sides, a busbar can run along the top as well as the bottom, which keeps a full row of MCBs neat and tidy. The terminals accept conductors from 1 to 25 mm².
Good to know
This MCB is designed for alternating current. For direct current, Schrack specifies a maximum of 48 V per pole, so the DC side of a solar panel system requires separate DC protection. Installation is a job for a qualified electrician, and once the work is complete, a mandatory inspection by an approved inspection body follows.
