A 4-pole 25A circuit breaker (MCB) is often found at the start of a three-phase supply cable, for example to a sub-board in a garage, workshop or outbuilding. This Schrack BMS4 protects the three phases against overload and short circuit and switches the neutral with them, so the entire circuit is de-energised when it trips.
Applications
- supplying a three-phase sub-board with its own MCBs
- a larger heat pump or machine that requires 25 A per phase
- a three-phase inverter or home battery, as specified in the manual
It is designed for a network with both phases and neutral (3N×400 V). In homes, AREI (the Belgian electrical installation regulations) links 25 A to a conductor of at least 4 mm².

Installation
The MCB takes up 4 modules and clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail. Thanks to the open terminals on both sides, a busbar can run along the top and the bottom, which is handy in a sub-board with several circuits. You are free to choose the mounting orientation.
Good to know
In a warm consumer unit, the permissible load decreases; Schrack provides derating factors for this based on the ambient temperature. Your electrician takes this into account during design and installation. If you add a sub-board, you must then have the installation inspected by an approved inspection body.
