This 30 mA, 63 A residual current device (RCD) protects people: it switches off as soon as 30 mA of leakage current flows to earth. You choose the higher rating of 63 A when the circuits downstream of it together draw more than the usual 40 A.
When should you choose 63 A instead of 40 A?
- many circuits requiring 30 mA protection on a single RCD, such as the bathroom, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher
- a single-phase installation with a high-capacity supply

Good to know
The 63 A rating must match the circuit breakers downstream, your supply and the upstream protection; your electrician will check this. Leave the installation to a qualified electrician; the inspection by an approved inspection body then follows.
