A 32A circuit breaker (MCB) protects the heaviest single-phase appliances in the home. This Schrack BMS4 disconnects both conductors in the event of an overload or short circuit and, like the lower ratings, takes up only 2 modules on the DIN rail.
Typical circuits for 32 A
- an induction hob connected to a single 230 V circuit
- a single-phase EV charger up to 7.4 kW, if the manufacturer specifies 32 A
- the supply to a sub-board in an outbuilding or workshop
In homes, AREI (the Belgian electrical installation regulations) links the MCB rating to the cable cross-section: 32 A requires at least 6 mm². For longer cable runs, electricians often choose a thicker cable to limit voltage drop.

Installation
The MCB clips onto a 35 mm DIN rail to EN 50022. A 6 or 10 mm² cable fits easily in the terminals, which accept up to 25 mm². After connecting, your electrician tightens the screws to between 2 and 2.4 Nm.
Good to know
For an EV charger, the manufacturer often also requires a specific type of residual current protection; check this in the manual. Have the circuit installed by a qualified electrician and then have the installation inspected by an approved inspection body, as required.
