Use this 4-pole 16A circuit breaker (MCB) to protect a three-phase appliance that draws up to 16 A per phase. Each of the three phase poles has thermal and magnetic protection, while the neutral is switched without protection. If a fault occurs on one phase, all poles switch off together.
What is 16 A per phase used for?
- an 11 kW EV charger (16 A per phase)
- a three-phase heat pump or inverter, if the manual calls for 16 A
- a compressor, table saw or other three-phase machine in your workshop
It is used in an installation with a neutral conductor. If your home has a 3×230 V network without neutral, the electrician will fit a 3-pole MCB instead.

Installation and connection
The BMS4 clips onto a standard DIN rail and can be mounted in any orientation. It makes no difference whether you connect the supply at the top or the bottom. The terminals accept conductors from 1 to 25 mm²; for an EV charger, the electrician chooses the cross-section based on cable length and power.
Good to know
For an EV charger, the manufacturer usually also specifies a particular type of residual current device (RCD), unless the charger itself detects DC fault currents. Have this assessed by a qualified electrician, who will also connect the charger. Before the new circuit is put into use, the installation must be inspected by an approved inspection body.
