A black mounting rail is the logical choice under all-black solar panels: it means you won't see any shiny aluminium at the edges of the panel array. This rail is the Novotegra C-N rail 37 in black anodised aluminium, with the same 52 × 37 mm profile as the mill-finish version.
Why choose the black rail?
- Rail ends and visible sections of rail blend in with black panel frames.
- The black colour comes from an anodised layer on the aluminium, not from paint.
- Matches the black Novotegra end cap C-N 37 and the black mid and end clamps 30-42.
- The open profile also serves as a cable channel, keeping cables out of sight.
How the rail fits into the side-fix system
The rail runs horizontally across the roof. At each roof hook, it is fixed from the side with a hammer-head bolt, which you turn a quarter turn until it locks into the side groove. The clamps then click into the top of the profile. Novotegra uses this system on clay and concrete tiles, with a roof pitch of 0 to 60°, a tile overlap of up to 110 mm and panels up to 1,340 mm wide. Rail sections are joined with the C-N 37 S rail connector.
Good to know
- Have a qualified installer determine the number of roof hooks, the rail spacing and the overhangs on the basis of a structural calculation for your roof.
- For a neat finish, close off the rail ends with the black end cap C-N 37, which is resistant to UV radiation and weathering.
